although many people in the US do not agree with the use of solitary confinement in the prisons, i agree with the system to an extent. i feel that the prison officers have the right to do what they whant to the prisioners in their prison but not putting them in solitary confinement for longer than a year at a time.
if i were to draft a law regulating the use of solitary confinement, i would make it so solitary confinement is completely by yourself for a period of time up to a year at a time. the time of length you are in there depends on what you do in the prison. if you come out of solitary confinement and do something again, then you go right back in there again for a certain amount of time. also they could have two hours of outside time a day, along with an hour of lunch and dinner and 10 minute shower. during these times they must be by themselves with no one to talk to and they must make their own food with only a spoon.
in my prison system, i would deffinitly let the prison officials have a "free hand" in what they do in their own prisons. they see whats going on the best and they know how the prisoners act. the only restriction there would be would be only one year at a time but you can go back in if you do something that is bad enough.
i would allow prisoners to challenge their solitary confinement only if they really think they have not doine anything wrong. the prison must have good evidence that you actually did something bad enough to go into solitary confinement. they must be able to prove their point.
solitary confinement is good to try and fix people but to a limit. they must be able to prove that the prisoner did something also making it so they cant just throw people in there.

gangs
there are many things we can do to try and stop gangs. first there are the simple and obvious ones. we can increase police presence and set up community spots for the kids to go to instead of going to chill with their homies. i know these have already been attempted and still doesnt work so i dont know what to do then. there really isnt a way to completely stop gangs unless you prevent it from the beginning. kids who are raised in bad areas are influenced by people so much. most of them will end up in gangs even if it is against their own will. i dont think anything will work because there are always factors that make kids join gangs. for example, sometimes they dont feel safe so they join a gang to gain a brotherhood that they may not have and they then feel safe.

DEATH PENALTY WOOOO!!!!!!!!
I feel that the death penalty does not stop people from killing people. I think that when they kill someone they are not thinking about what is going to happen next. And even if they are, i think that most people dont care and would rather be dead and if they dont then they should just kill themselves anyways. im not a criminologist so my opinion doesnt matter at all, im just saying that i think when people kill, they dont think about what is going to happen if they get caught so the death penalty wouldnt stop them from killing.
i think that the biggest downfall to the death penalty is that someone who is innocent could be sentenced to the death penalty. while an innocent person is going to die, the real killer is still out there and is most likely going to kill again in my opinion.
The amount of money they spend on these people in jail is crazy. The average cost of keeping a prisoner in jail for 1 year is $22,600. The average time spent on death row is 11 years. This is $248,600 spent on 1 inmate. The average cost per student in public school each year is $9,800 (a difference of $12,800). So, in your 12 years of schooling, the national average is $117,600. I feel that we should stop putting money to these people who dont have a future and give money to the school districts and help kids have futures. if more money would be sent to schools, maybe more kids could do something with their lives and that could lower crime reates a little...maybe.
In my research, i found that the average cost of death penalty is 63.3 million per year. i think that if we are going to do this, it should be done right after the trial when they are proven guilty. i believe that the average dollar amount for a bullet is around 20 cents. this would save lots of time and money if we just got rid of them ASAP. Then with all the extra money, it could go to my bank account because i thought of the idea. (even though im not the first to think of it, i should get the money)

CRAZY LADY
I feel that it was not her fault for killing her 5 kids. it is the fact that she was off of her drugs that she killed her kids. it is the fact that she is mentally insane.before she killed her kids, she kept going in and out of the hospital and it should have been noted that she was crazy and she needed real help for her problems. she should have been put in a real place to help her with her problems and not just give her some pills to take when she can just stop taking them at anytime and go nuts. also she thought about doing this for 2 years prior. during the two years she was on her pills at some point and doing fine im sure, and she was still thinking about doing this. she was at some point in a normal state of mind and was thinking about killing her kids. i would say that she is insane with her pills and deffinitely without them.instead of letting her go with only going into a mental place, she should have had to go to a looney bin and stayed there for a super long time instead of going to a free looney bin where you get to come and go as you please. she should not be aloud to walk the streets because what if she stops taking her medicine? she could think someone else is a bad mom and go kill her and her kids. who knows what this psycho is capable of doing when she is off of her drugs. The insanity law is a good one if you have a history of insanity. the only way you should be able to get off using the insanity plea is by having to stay in a mental facility for a mad long time without a chance for lowering the time or security in which they are being watched over. if the person does not have a history of insanity, then they should have to go to a real jail and have absolutely no chance to go for the insanity plea.

Stopping Crime
Personally, i don't think crime can be stopped. there will always be many factors that contribute to crime which the government cant do anything about. these factors obviously are genetics, poverty, and media which we learned about.
people cant stop genetics from causing crime. what are they going to do, go into our DNA structure and change our DNA? ohh, maybe the human genome project can help us out a little. although this is a possibility, i dont think that you can find the exact gene that causes crime and change it around to make people donate money instead of stealing, or even save someone's life instead of taking it from them. maybe there is a gene for stealing, or killing.... i have no idea. also this would cost a lot of money to do and a lot of time.
with poverty, about the only thing people can do to prevent poverty is to give them money, money in which we dont have. people should just get a job and then maybe people wouldnt steal for money. even though some people have jobs it may not pay enough so they steal anyways. so there is really no way to stop crime in poverty. we should make the jails worse than they are so then people would be afraid to go there. it shouldnt be a privilege for people to go to jail. in poverty some people live in such bad conditions, they want to go to jail, so lets make jail worse than ever.
media also causes crime by making people think it is ok to kill when they watch videos or video games which kill people. people think they can kill and get away with it from imitating other cases where people got off.
Genetics, Poverty, and Media are all factors that causes crime all over the world. there are almost no ways that would work to fix these problems.
